Winter, winter....Cold Winter. As I come from a very humid and warm country, European dry winter kills me...literally. At least my skin and hair. But with the years, I learnt to deal with it with beauty products. I tried so many but this winter I am really happy with my choice. Here my top 5 Winter Mommy Essentials:
1. M.A.C. Face & Body.
When My skin gets super dry, the only foundation that doesn't make me look like a zombie is Face & Body. Actually it is super soft. It doesn't cover too much but it makes your complexion more even and look prettier and the finish is matte and natural. Before I apply it (if my skin is as dry as an elephant) is their Fix Studio and Prep + Prime Moisturizer Infusion.
2. Kiehl's Centella Recovery Skin-Salve
Once a week I apply a thick layer of this salve. The cream Centella Recovery Skin Salve from Kiehl's is an effective moisturizing care with a healing effect for dehydrated, sensitive and irritated skin. The formula contains Centella asiatica, aloe vera and honey and these soothes my skin and moisturize it.
3. MAYE Berlin 100% Argan Oil
For a long time I thought Argan oil was just good for my hair. After trying it as a skin moisturizer for 2 weeks,, I noticed the huge impact it had on my skin. No more big dry red patches. I have to accept I was a bit skeptic to put oil in my face (i hate outbreaks) but It worked perfectly and my skin looks refreshed. But then again not all Argan oils are the same. I can Totally recommend the once from MAYE Berlin. After washing my face with a mild face soap, I apply this oil all over my face and let it absorb. Pass your hands throught your face again and apply your makeup as always
4. M.A.C. Tendertalk Lip Balm
Lips. my "Winterlips" are terrible and I need to exfoliate them every 2 weeks (use some sugar and oil and rub them with your finger and take the excess with a tissue paper) But in order to keep them looking great and use some trendy matte lipsticks I use Tendertalk Lip Balm from MAC. It is an intelligent lip care which creates a personalized color depending on the PH of your body. And it smells like vanilla!!!
The winter brise can actually cause breakage. So the best thing I have tried on my hair is Olaplex. It is a salon treatment that you continue at home with Olaplex N•3. You can get a professional olaplex treatment at my favorite Salon Marc Bennmann and continue at home with number 3. You wont regrets it. best thing I have ever tried!
As I am a single mom and I carry 100% of the expenses, sometimes I need to make stuff myself instead of buying it or get a bit creative. In this case, was to be creative. We are flying to Vietnam. It is an expensive trip but I think it will be worth it. So I went through my closet treasures to see what can I get "rid" of. So I added a new tab in this website called "Second Hand" where we are selling all the outfits of Pepa (at least the prettiest ones) I hope they find a super nice new home!
And so many more in the shop!
Toys, Toys & more Toys. How many toys a baby needs? I decided from the beginning not to over do the amount of toys Pepa Carlota has. And she doesnt get all of them available at once.
I like to rotate toys 5 at a time. So she learns that everything is available all the time and doesn't get bored that easily.
As she plays mostly alone, as I am teaching her to be independent and not be "entertained" I get to notice which toys are her favorite.. And I can explain why these ones are my favorites at the moment as well.
1. Wooden Story - Koala Bear Teether:
I have been seeing this beautiful toys made of wood and coloured with natural paint all over the net and I fell in love with them. I was so happy when Pepa´s God Mother Helena gave her this beautiful teether for christmas. She loves it and it is a very beautiful toy to take with us when we go to a party or restaurant. It serves as teether as well as a beautiful accessory to her outfits when we are out and about.
2. Handmade Baby Gym:
Me and my dad made this. I love design and our flat is decorated in a very minimalistic scandinavian way. So I really wanted a Baby Gym that wasn't made out of plastic and in crazy colors. So, almost 2 years ago I designed it and made it. It is a mix of natural wood, crochet pearls and cotton rope. Pepa has been playing with it since she was born until now (i added the Baby Bjorn bouncer under it when she was too tiny to grab the pearls)
3. Lucky Boy Sunday - Polly Doll
This Danish brand makes 100% Alpaca dolls. They work with people from Bolivia under fair trade. This doll is softer than my cashmere sweaters and so well made. It was a present of my dear friend Anne. She says she looks like me, and i think she was right!
love the quote on their website: POLLY LOOKS IN THE MIRROR AND SAYS "WAUW"
4. Bruin - Activity Center
It isnt the prettiest toy we have, but It helps Pepa to learn. My parents bought it last year at ToysRus. I can't find the link to it, but i linked a similar one in this post.
I am amazed by the way Pepa learns and discovers new things in this activity center, she learnt that moving things will make other things move, she loves the songs and I can see her fine-motor skills improve day by day. we have it hanging in her crib but I have a white blanket covering it when she isnt there playing ;)
5. Fisher Price - Song Book
I love this one and Pepa is just starting to learn how to use it. Everytime you turn a page a new song starts. She already has a favorite song and it is fun to see her dance to the melodies. I think this toy will be used until it doesn't work anymore.
...there is a way, says my mom. I have always been terrible with sewing. I was that problem child in school that was sent to a very old manual sewing machine because of all the nonsense I used to do. And that is why I never learnt to sew something besides a table cloth.
My mom on the other hand, is a genius with the sewing machine, dresses, patchworks, you name it. She has the patience of a saint and the ability of a seamstress. I think I have so much to learn from her.
As I am in the black forest for 10 days with very limited internet and my folks work everyday on their hotel and restaurants, I need to fill my days while pepa naps.
Helena lent us 2 bonnets in Oslo during this xmas and I loved how they looked on Pepa. You can by them online, but takes weeks to wait for them, they are very expensive and I thought I might be able to sew them on my own. So I started searching the internet for patterns but without sucess :(
So I decided to design my own Bonnet (with some help of my mom)! It took two days to design and sew it but I think I made it. I will be making a blogpost once I am balck in berlin on how to sew a bonnet including the pattern.
If you could, what would you sew for your baby/kid? which kind of patterns would you like to have an learn?
I'm Andrea - a food enthusiast and blogger. Recently I noticed I have been answering a lot of questions about what I buy for my daughter Pepa, or what are my thoughts in certain "mom stuff". This is how I realised I should start a blog about being mom.. Or "Mom" like me! I hope to share my thoughts, amazing, things I buy and amazing recipes with other moms, just like me!
