Sometimes you go to the playground or the Kindergarten and you are in a rush and forget to look around to see what is happening, new store or even the old ones.
I went with my dear friend Ailine searching for kitchen props for our blogs. She lives in Kreuzberg and she wanted to see what Prenzlauer Berg offers, Store-wise. And we found beautiful things from stores I didnt really saw in my every day. So I decided to explore more my district last week.
1. PALM STUDIO:
I have been watching this location for a while. But it wasn't open yet and to be honest, even though it is next to Pepa's Kindergarten, I never have the time to stop. But I did one day. And guess what? it is an awesome store. Not only because the design off all their products is beautiful and minimalistic, But they are good for the environment. Once your organic soap, shampoo or product is empty, you can take your bottle back and refill it instead of throwing it away.
And a very big plus for me (besides looking awesome in my bathroom), the owner is Peruvian like me, so I get to chat a bit in castellano when I come by. You should pay a visit to Marchi at Palm Studio, Lets Re-fill not Land-fill!
This store has loads of scandinavian style objects, hence the name (means "thing" in Norwegian). You can find from plates to earrings, all beautiful, so beautiful I wish I could buy them all!
I got myself a wooden oval plate that you might have seen in my Papa Rellena Blogpost some days ago.
A vintage-look citrus press made of wood. I love it! not only looks great while making ceviche, but works even better than my old metal one.
An environmentally friendly coffee filter. Instead of using paper and tossing it away, You just rinse this one. Lovely for my Kalita, when I feel like hand brewing.
Raise your hand if you detest the neon pink and green kitchen cloths from the supermarket? I cant stand them laying around my black/white/red kitchen. But I found these at Ting and I love how they look even laying around.
I will continue to explore my district and find some more stores I haven't check. I might get surprised again. Do you know all the stores around you? Do you ever go exploring in your own block?
We got a Facebook invitation from one of our favorite stores in Berlin: Greta +Bjorn. It said: 70% sale with a "Badge Making Creation Station". I mean, I was totally an 80s kid and loooooved badges. We woke up very early to be the firsts in there.
It was beautiful decorated, with cozy pillows and all materials you could imagine: Scissors, colorful tapes, pencils, crayons, gift papers and more. Our friends Katja and Yvonne arrived with their kids and suddenly was a badges factory. Chop chop, paste, cut while we moms were in shopping craze and found beautiful things in their Stock Sale. I got Pepa a sweater from ENFANT, a beanie and some knee socks from Tinycottons.
I loved the idea of The Little Art. Having a PopUp Mobile Art Lab. At a kids birthday party or even an event where you need kids to be entertained. It was not only for kids but for tiny kids like Pepa. We all worked together sharing the glue and helping each other. I had a lot of fun as well. And we managed to make a beautiful badge were Pepa chose the materials for her badge and she wore it the whole day.
If you are into music and you plant to take your kids to Loolapalooza this month, there will be a PopUp.And at Berlins Art Week they will be popping up at the Berlinische Galerie. Go jump there and start handcrafting.
Thanks Greta+Bjorn for the Stock Sale with such a cozy event. Thanks for the chocolate cupcakes as well. Pepa´s little hand got to take at least 3 of them and you can see her face after I told her not to get more (picture follows). Scroll down to see more pictures of this "handy" event.

I always get asked how I manage to have my and Pepa's sneakers super white. Or if my kicks are brand new. I used to wash white sneakers every time I got home. What a tool, right? but once Pepa started to crawl and walk it got difficult.
Washing white leather over and over ruins it. And, believe me, sometimes you can wash toddlers shoes a million times and they will still look dirty. I tried it all. But I have a new secret tool to finally have spotless shoes.
This is how Pepa's shoes looked like after washing them. Used toothpaste, a toothbrush, detergent, hardcore kitchen cleaners, but still DIRRRRTY! That leather was impossible to clean and I was about to give them to charity, or toss them to the trash.
Not to mention how my new Y-3 Stan Smiths look after walking around with a toddler. Somehow she manages to step on me E-V-E-R-Y time! Washing that rubber does not work and dirty sneakers make me crazy. Besides that, sometimes I need to get my cheap stroller instead of our beloved bugaboo and using the footbreak takes a toll on my sneakers...dirt, dirt dirt.
But then I found in an internet sneaker forum "Mister Proper Magic Eraser" and decided to try it. I bought it on Amazon Prime Now and to be honest, I was very sceptic about it.
You will need:
- Meister Proper Schmutzradierer (Mister Proper Magic Eraser in english)
- Kitchen Paper Towel
- Old toothbrush
- Washing detergent
- A needle
I should write in BIG BOLD LETTERS: THIS IS NOT AN AD! I took the sponge and wet it. And I didn't even need to use force or pressure: BAAAM! the dirt was gone instantly. On both, the leather and rubber. I used a pretty small part of it. Dry them with paper towel and repeat if needed.
Using the toothbrush and detergent wash carefully any textile on your shoes. Rinse and repeat. Textile should be easy to wash, and if it is too dirty, add some chlorine to the mix but not much because it can make it yellow-y.
If you have velcro, Use a needle to remove hairs, fuzzles and whatever it is there. You will need an extra portion of patience.
And this is how you keep your sneakers white, whitest. It takes about 10 seconds for the leather and rubber to look like you just got the sneakers from the box. This eraser work perfectly on any color of leather, rubber or hard spong-y surface.
Small Extra Trick: Spray your new leather shoes with waterproof protection. Do it after cleaning them as well. This will help extend the life of your kicks and get them less dirty during the day. After all, they are made out of leather, like your favorite leather boots :)
Do you battle as well with sneakers and shoes? or do you prefer the "used look"?
For Pepa's Birthday, I decided to buy a Tipi. She loves hiding and cuddling to pillows and what best than a tipi for it. Our bedroom is a bit too small for hosting a tipi, but I was thinking to make my all white scandinavian minimalist living room into a kids-friendly zone keeping it sleek enough for me to be happy and comfortable in it.
First, Make some space and change the wall color. The color is Black Blue from Farrow & Ball. I wanted a light greenish color, but I noticed my Bolia couch didn't match at all (even though the sofa color is grey-beige seems a bit rose color with light green)
I moved some furniture and the sofa. Now there is enough space for Pepa's Tipi and indoors playground.
I started with a carpet. The Jute Carpet with black triangles from Ferm Living was my choice as I needed a 130cm diameter carpet. And it would fit perfectly under the tipi. Second and third place were The World Rug from Oyoy and Ikea's Ådum
I went to IKEA and got an anti-slide mat called Båring, as I noticed the rug went everywhere once Pepa stepped on it.
I bought a "Chrysalidocarous Lutescens" at IKEA and moved my "Bird of Paradise" Palm next to the Tipi to make it more like an urban jungle.
About the Tipi. I was looking for some nice Tipis for a while but I finally decided for the Nobodinoz Tipi in natural white. Second and Third place were Cyrillus Kinder Tipi and Granit Zelt Tipi.
I love the feathers detail on the Nobodinoz Tipi and I added the soft cotton Kiowa rug from Nobodinoz for more comfort.
For cushions I used the Polar Bear I got Pepa at the Berlin Zoo, Her favorite shark from IKEA, 2 linen pillow cases from H&M, her lion and a white organic pillow she got as a present.
And as you see, I have a happy girl in love with her new crib! Now lets she what can I do with all this toy mess. I should start looking how to store them all!
Winter, winter....Cold Winter. As I come from a very humid and warm country, European dry winter kills me...literally. At least my skin and hair. But with the years, I learnt to deal with it with beauty products. I tried so many but this winter I am really happy with my choice. Here my top 5 Winter Mommy Essentials:
1. M.A.C. Face & Body.
When My skin gets super dry, the only foundation that doesn't make me look like a zombie is Face & Body. Actually it is super soft. It doesn't cover too much but it makes your complexion more even and look prettier and the finish is matte and natural. Before I apply it (if my skin is as dry as an elephant) is their Fix Studio and Prep + Prime Moisturizer Infusion.
2. Kiehl's Centella Recovery Skin-Salve
Once a week I apply a thick layer of this salve. The cream Centella Recovery Skin Salve from Kiehl's is an effective moisturizing care with a healing effect for dehydrated, sensitive and irritated skin. The formula contains Centella asiatica, aloe vera and honey and these soothes my skin and moisturize it.
3. MAYE Berlin 100% Argan Oil
For a long time I thought Argan oil was just good for my hair. After trying it as a skin moisturizer for 2 weeks,, I noticed the huge impact it had on my skin. No more big dry red patches. I have to accept I was a bit skeptic to put oil in my face (i hate outbreaks) but It worked perfectly and my skin looks refreshed. But then again not all Argan oils are the same. I can Totally recommend the once from MAYE Berlin. After washing my face with a mild face soap, I apply this oil all over my face and let it absorb. Pass your hands throught your face again and apply your makeup as always
4. M.A.C. Tendertalk Lip Balm
Lips. my "Winterlips" are terrible and I need to exfoliate them every 2 weeks (use some sugar and oil and rub them with your finger and take the excess with a tissue paper) But in order to keep them looking great and use some trendy matte lipsticks I use Tendertalk Lip Balm from MAC. It is an intelligent lip care which creates a personalized color depending on the PH of your body. And it smells like vanilla!!!
The winter brise can actually cause breakage. So the best thing I have tried on my hair is Olaplex. It is a salon treatment that you continue at home with Olaplex N•3. You can get a professional olaplex treatment at my favorite Salon Marc Bennmann and continue at home with number 3. You wont regrets it. best thing I have ever tried!
Pepa Carlota was born 10 days before she was expected, I guess she was dying to meet me. 3500 gr and 50 cm with dark brown eyes, like mine: Deer Like. This is why this blog is called Deer Mommy.
Its about me, Pepa and our life together. About me as a mom, a single mom living in Berlin with a huge heart for my little fawn Pepa.
I'm Andrea - a food enthusiast and blogger. Recently I noticed I have been answering a lot of questions about what I buy for my daughter Pepa, or what are my thoughts in certain "mom stuff". This is how I realised I should start a blog about being mom.. Or "Mom" like me! I hope to share my thoughts, amazing, things I buy and amazing recipes with other moms, just like me!
